The reflective webinar series aims to bring together multiple elements of the training program to deepen understanding of the core competencies required in working with adolescents and high risk young people.

We recommend that participants listen to The Maze Phase episode 7, prior to this session.

Learning Outcomes: 

  • Understand that Eating Disorders exist along a spectrum of disordered behaviours
  • Understand where to access screening and assessment tools, diagnostic criteria and admission eligibility criteria
  • Consider best practice care models for eating disorders along the spectrum of disorders and severity
  • Apply this knowledge to decision making processes about management and referral pathways through case discussion

Meet our presenters:

Michele Yeo graduated from med school in 1993 . She is a paediatrician/ adolescent physician at the Department of Adolescent Medicine and Centre for Adolescent Health. She is the Medical Lead in the Royal Children’s Hospital Eating Disorders Program.

Her main areas of interest are eating disorders, adolescent risk behaviours, chronic illness, medical education and health services research. Michele also enjoys teaching about adolescent health to medical students and other health professionals.

Jenny graduated from Unimelb in 1988 and has been working in General Practice since 1991. She has a special interest in Mental Health issues especially supporting young people. Over the last 10 years she has been dealing more and more with patients living with an Eating disorder and has recently completed a Master of Medicine by research examining the efficacy of an RACGP online learning module she helped developed to improve early recognition and management of ED patients by GP Registrars.

She currently consults in Healesville is the Yarra Valley and in Fitzroy North and is part of the DISS team providing care to two rural secondary colleges in Healesville and Yarra Junction. She also is a GP consultant for EDV and NEDC where she facilitates workshops and is contributing to further online professional development regarding GPs role in the diagnosis and management of Eating Disorders.
